National Care Leavers Month 2025

National Care Leavers Month 2025

Posted 4th December 2025

NHP marked a significant milestone this year by celebrating the first-ever National Care Leavers Month (NCLM) - a month-long opportunity to amplify the voices and celebrate the achievements of care leavers. Building on the success of previous National Care Leavers Weeks (NCLW), extending the celebration for a full month created more space and opportunity to recognise the accomplishments and resilience of care-experienced young people.

This year’s theme, “Rising as Me: Overcoming challenges, transforming, and finding your identity,” encouraged young people and communities to reflect on personal growth, resilience, and self-discovery.

Throughout the month, NHP and Local House Projects (LHPs) delivered a varied programme of activities. LHPs hosted celebration evenings, sports days, and cooking events, each designed to build connection, confidence, and community. These activities embodied the spirit of the month offering young people opportunities to express themselves, try new experiences, and form meaningful friendships.

CLNM representatives also met during the month to plan for their Annual Conference on 3rd December 2025, which focused on the theme of Interdependence. In readiness for their event, CLNM reps took part in public speaking training and rehearsals, preparing to lead a conference informed by the recommendations of their 2025 Peer Evaluation.

The month also brought external recognition. NHP was shortlisted for a Social Enterprise Award, and while we did not win, we were proud to be acknowledged and delighted to see the achievements of young people celebrated through the shortlisting. Several young people in the House Project community were granted Aspirational Awards, providing them with the opportunity to fulfil a lifelong dream or ambition.

In addition, an NHP film - developed collaboratively between Reels in Motion and Alan, a young person in the House Project community and recipient of an Aspirational Award - achieved national acclaim. The film won a Gold EVCOM Award and was highly commended in another category, marking an exceptional achievement and a moment of immense pride for everyone involved.

The first NCLM has concluded with so much to celebrate... the growth of young people, the strength of communities, and the recognition of their voices.

Aspirational Awards Update
Aspirational Awards Update

In May, the Aspirational Awards panel awarded just over £15,000 to 19 young people across our LHPs. It was inspiring to see such a wide range of ideas, goals and determination reflected in the applications, and a privilege to support more young people as they take their next steps forward. Funding in Round 9 supported training + graduate employment scheme, equipment for a baking business and support for other businesses, sports sessions, music lessons, lifeguard course, and day trips. We have also recently completed a 3 year review of our Aspirational Awards and the impact they’ve had. Over the past 3 years, we’ve awarded over £147,000 to 138 young people (not including figures from our most recent round in May). If you would like to find out more about how to support the Aspirational Awards please get in touch.
